Customer questionnaires can be instrumental for helping you, as a business, determine the direction your products will take, to gauge customer satisfaction, and to learn what your customers are really looking for in the products and services you offer. However, they are only as good as the response you get to your questioning.
Sending out your customer questionnaire at the right time can make all the difference in the world. You may wonder if it is best to send out a customer questionnaire in the morning, afternoon or evening? What about the days of the week? Are weekends better than weekdays?
Here is what you need to know about the best times to send out a questionnaire.
Who is Your Audience?
Does your business cater to a B2B or B2C clientele? Understanding your target audience is important. Businesses that are trying to market goods and services to other businesses will perform better sending out customer questionnaires during the other person’s normal business hours. For most businesses, that involves 9 to 5 hours on weekdays. These are the hours when the audience is at work with their minds on work responsibilities.
For B2C audiences, on the other hand, there is little evidence to support specific days or hours as offering better responses, though some will argue that fewer marketers send out emails and such on the weekend so you’re facing less competition for the attention of your audience.
The Time of Day Question
Time of day matters when sending out questionnaire emails. Unfortunately, the best time to send out emails may vary from one day to the next. For instance, Monday mornings are usually filled with getting ready for the week. This involves reading missed emails from the weekend and getting weeks started out right. If you want a response on Mondays, consider sending them out in the afternoon so they aren’t missed in the chaos of the morning.
On Wednesdays and Thursdays, people are often busy going through the height of their workweeks with demanding schedules. You’re likely to experience a better response from your survey tool on these days if you send questionnaires out late in the afternoon when your audience might be looking for a break from their workdays. Fridays are the opposite. By Friday afternoon many people have checked out of their workweek modes and are already in the five o’clock or weekend frame of mind. Your best bet on Friday is to send out questionnaires as early in the day as possible.
Timing your surveys right can make a world of difference in your open and response rates when using online survey software. Remember, there are other factors, such as branding, incentive, survey length and email subject lines, that play a role in response rates. The more you work on improving your survey completion strategy, the more likely you increase your response rate and get the feedback you need to grow your business.
