Ten ways to get more mileage out of your B2B surveys

Online survey software allows you to create B2B surveys so you can find out how your business is doing and get suggestions for how to improve. Surveys provide important strategic information, but you can get a little more out of them with the following tips.

1. Keep the survey short

Try to reduce the overall size of your B2B survey. The majority of people don’t want to spend a lot of time taking a survey, especially if there are required text fields. Make it short, simple, and straight to the point, while also gathering the pertinent information you need.

2. Share the survey results

Social media is a great way to garner more attention for your survey and encourage others to take the same one before your research is complete. As people start using the survey software, gather results and post them on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter. Include a link to the survey so that more interested parties can take it.

3. Use different forms of content

The same information you gather from your survey’s first round can also be used over multiple content formats. This allows you to get even more mileage from that survey, even when you don’t have other businesses completing it. You can take the results and create an infographic, use it to make an informative video, or even come up with blog posts based on the survey and results.

4. Create a webinar

Webinars are great because they are relatively easy to put together and provide a lot of valuable information for people that attend them. You can use the survey results to hold a webinar for your audience where they not only listen to the results, but can actually interact with you and other participants. You can then record it and give it out as a free download.

5. Be careful with how you word the survey

Part of the battle of extending the life of a B2B survey is just in getting people to take it. This requires you to be careful with how you invite people to the survey tool. When writing the invitation, make sure you don’t use words that will cause it to end up in the spam filter and that you appeal to your audience in a way that gets their attention. Make sure they know from the beginning how short it is and that it only takes a couple of minutes. If you are offering anything in return for the survey, make that known as well.

6. Follow up with people

After you have people taking the survey and have started gathering results, follow up with them to let them know about the results. Shoot them a quick email to touch base following the survey and find out if they had any more comments or questions.

7. Do your research

It is important that you not rush into the survey process. Don’t do a survey just to do one, but really choose a unique purpose or angle. Don’t repeat what other similar surveys ask, but think of another insight you might be looking for when you conduct it.

8. Know how to order the questions

Another important part of research is that you don’t just ask questions randomly, but have a logical order. You should always start with simple questions that are just screening people taking the survey. This gets them introduced to the survey without requiring too much. As you move through the survey, start asking more specific questions, leaving any in-depth questions for the very end.

9. Create an FAQ

Once you get the final results of your B2B survey, you can use that to create a detailed FAQ page. This allows you to keep the results from the survey live on your website or blog, allowing it to help others.

10. Publish a press release

The final way to get more out of your survey is to publish a press release at the very end of the survey. Post the results from the survey in your press release, making note of the most interesting findings.

With these easy tips, you can really get the most out of your B2B survey.
