A captcha question provide a means to ensure that the respondent is not spider or a robot. Even though a captcha requires an input from the user, no actual data is recorded in the database. Therefore the captcha is categorized as a presentation element rather than as a question.

When a survey page contains a captcha, the participant will not be able to proceed to the next page until they correctly enter the characters shown to them as an image by the captcha presentation element.

• Short name: the name used to identify the captcha element in the authoring screens for the system
• Captcha introduction: Specifies introductory text shown before the captcha.
• Characters: Specifies the characters to use when the captcha is generated. By default, the characters are digits 0 through 9.
• Length: Specifies the number of characters in the capcha.
